Original period manufacture. Slot brooch Purple Heart named on the reverse to Alexander Zlaten in depot type engraving. Complete, original ribbon and suspension pin. The Missing Aircrew Report states that on the 6th of February 1945, while on a dive-bombing mission with the 412th Fighter Squadron piloting P-47D 42-28832, his aircraft was hit by enemy fire near Zall Germany at approximately 12:15pm. He reported that his aircraft was smoking badly, forcing Lt. Zlaten to bail-out from the stricken aircraft. He was captured by German troops and held as a POW until the end of the war.
