Original era manufacture. Standard GI T-Handle shovel of WWI-WWII, maker marked on the handle tang US  AMES 1942. Traces of the original GI paint remain on the handle and shovel blade. Clearly marked light OD canvas cover, SCHAWE-GERWIN CO. 1942, but with an odd placement of the 1910 belt hook, down low, instead of the proscribed spot at the top. Perhaps GI modified, with a further modification with the addition of a small canvas loop for the connecting  strap to pass through. Who knows, it was on the shovel at the time of our purchase.
