US WWII Trench Art Carved Wooden Box, Artillery 7th Army
Item #62305 : Original era manufacture. A nicely hand carved wooden box, with the front side carved to represent a line of books on a bookshelf. Each spine is named to an individual in France and Germany, Le Havre, Rouen, Dieppe, Aachen, Cologne, Dusseldorf, Bielstein, Stuttgart, Paris, Marseille. On the shelf edges, France-Belgium-Holland-Germany. The lid is decorated with deeply carved images of US Army shoulder sleeve insignia, with crossed cannon at center. The box measures 9.5x5.5x4.5. The wood planks have distorted a bit over the years, yet remains an attractive piece of WWII era Trench Art, perhaps POW made.
