Original era manufacture. US WWII Navy Identity Tag set named to Horace Wallace Sheeler, who served aboard the USS Croatanfrom 8/43 - 10/45.The USS Croatan was a US Navy Escort Carrier commissioned on 28April 1943, serving as the nucleus of a Hunter-Killer group operating in the Atlantic Ocean. She, and the ships under her control, are credited with the following kills; 7April 1944 U-856, 25-26 April U-488, June 10 1944 her planes and escorts forced the U-490 to the surface, where the sub was scuttled by her crew, 60 of them survived and were picked up. On 3 July 1944 U-154 was sunk.In April 1945 she added U-880 andU-1235 to her final tally. She was sold for scrap in 1971.
