Original era manufacture. This wonderful set was recently found by a local collector, lying in the bottom of a display case in an antique mall. 1944 dated aluminum cup & stainless steel canteen, light OD canteen cover, with a light OD canvas pistol belt. Slipped over the belt, and residing in it's handmade leather sheath, is a handmade knife, with a 7-inch Bowie style blade. The guard and pommel are made from aircraft aluminum, with clear aircraft plexiglas grip plates, one side displaying the sailor's initials EJS in copper wire, and the other side a small fouled anchor with the letters USN. The body of the leather sheath is decorated with flowers and leaves, with a thick leather binding strip on each side. The age of all three components match each other in condition, with staining on the reverse of the belt from the sheath belt loop. The cover is faded and stained from the water it once contained, with the belt body showing minor fraying along the edges. Portions of the pommel strap remain, with staining from where the aluminum guard rubbed into the belt loop. Just a great WWII relic which appears to be untouched since 1945.
