Original era manufacture. From a local estate is this identified grouping to an Arizona man who served in the Army Air Force during WWII as a P-51 pilot, 383rd Fighter Squadron, 364th Fighter Group.According to the original documentation accompanying the grouping he was awarded the Air Medal for meritorious achievement in the destruction of an enemy aircraft. The smaller document notes the awarding of the Purple Heart for wounds received in action on 26 November 1945 (typo, should be 1944) in Germany.Online research provides details of the incident of Lt. Gaston's wounding on 26 November 1944, during an attack on a German Me-109, while flying P-51D 44-13707 (Lady Dorothy IV), when he himself was shot down. As is generally the case with non KIA medals, none are named; all of the medals reside in their original boxes, with an 8th AF patch and accompanying documentation. Also, printed copies of the Missing Aircraft Report regarding Lt. Gaston are also included.
