Original era manufacture. Over the years artifacts come into our hands which exhibit considerable use, often modified by their original owners to suit their individual needs at the time. "If only this could talk", is the oft-used phrase; such is the case with this old knife. Standard USMC marked utility knife, made by Ka-Bar Olean NY. The blade retains little of its original finish, and exhibits evidence of numerous sharpenings, honing the edge to a razor sharpness. The point is ever so slightly blunted, overall the blade has retained its original configuration.The oval shaped steel guard has been bent downwards on one side, the stacked leather grip has been shortened to fit the owners hand, and the pommel cap has been removed and replaced with a thin metal disc.The original leather sheath displays considerable wear and age, with scattered surface dryness throughout. On the reverse are a series of letters/words, hand cut into the surface, but I just can't make them out.
