Original era manufacture. Light OD canvas pack which is complete with all straps and metal fittings. Maker marked and dated under the flap, U.S.M.C. BOYT 42.Staining to the exterior from service use, stenciled on the flap is the name P.N. HORTON.A quick glance at Ancestry reveals a Paul N. Horton serving with Fourth Marine Recruit Battalion, RecruitDepot San Diego in 1942. His next assignment was with Marine Fighting Squadron One Twelve, Marine Aircraft Group Eleven, First Marine Aircraft Wing, FMF SFO in October 1942.That same month, VMF 112, was assigned to Henderson Field, Guadalcanal, where during its service there was credited with the downing of 140 Japanese planes.
