Original era manufacture. Early etched pattern USMC tags with chain, issued to M.(Melford) W. Gessner, serial number 275783, with a Tetanus inoculation date of 4-41.Ancestry research provides an amazing career for this Marine NCO; May 1942 finds Corporal Gessner aboard the USS Pensacola during the Battle of Midway, October 1942 now Sergeant Gessner on Guadalcanal with VMF 212 "Cactus Airforce", he apparently was wounded there as a listing appears for him in the New York register Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard Casualties in the rank of Master Technical Sergeant VMF 114 a year later while stationed on Midway Island. One year later, October 1944 he now serves with VMF 115 (Major Joe Foss CO) as a Master Sergeant, in October 1945 he is stationed at NAS Vero Beach Florida. Included, are copies of the listings of his Muster Rolls from October 1939 to January 1948, and the listing in the USN, USMC, USCG Casualty list. Further research will no doubt reveal excellent detail on this Marine NCO's incredible service record.
