Original era manufacture. A scarce pattern of a square-tipped USMC marked bolo knife with its original canvas & leather sheath. Heavy, one piece steel blade & tang measuring 17 inches overall, with an 11.75 inch blade length. The blade has been heavily, and foolishly cleaned, however, USMC markings can be seen on the blade obverse, and on the reverse, the No. 1001 marking indicating Collins mfg. The blade retains its proper configuration with no corrosion pitting evident. Thick slab wood grips held in place with four steel rivets, typical marring and denting to the grip surface, but no cracks or chips. The sheath is quite interesting, being very reminiscent of the WWI era M1910, or M1917 Bolo sheath. Canvas covered, rigid body, with a leather throat and chape, with the 1910 belt hook on the reverse. The canvas fabric shows staining from service use, but there no holes or tears. One of the few examples of this pattern USMC issue bolo we have ever offered.
