Original era manufacture. This wonderful set was a recent acquisition of ours and once was worn with pride by an American Kennel Club registered English Bull Dog known as King Mickey, Private, USMC. King Mickey was born in November of 1942 and lived in Phoenix Arizona. In 1945 his humans volunteered Mickey for service in the Marines, joining the colors in April of 1945, with his duty station being the Women's Marine Reserve (Lucky Dog!) San Diego. Mickey served with pride and received his discharge in May of 1946 earning the American Campaign and Victory Medals. He was returned to his family in Phoenix and passed away in November of 1950. The grouping includes the following; Winter weight dog blanket uniform of USMC green wool with red wool trim, large embroidered USMC EGA and Corporal Chevrons (Mickey received a promotion), Summer weight dog blanket uniform of light green wool bathing suit material with white wool trim, his USMC service record book with numerous entries including mention of his medals (no medals were with the set), his American Kennel Club Register, 11 bw 3x5 photos of Mickey, some taken while wearing his uniforms, a very nice 8x10 bw photo of Mickey with two Women Marines and an unnamed man, several letters between the marines in San Diego and the Phoenix owners about Mickey's care and feeding and the best way to have him returned after discharge (the USMC ladies were quite fond of Mickey and wanted to keep him a little longer at war's end), a newspaper clipping obituary telling of Mickey's passing in 1950. There is some moth damage to the winter weight uniform and a missing button or two, the large photo shows bending but no tears or creases, all in all minor issues when compared to the rarity of the subject matter. A great set.
