Original period manufacture. Set of USMC Dog tags. Paul Van-Peenen, 851504. He received his Tetanus inoculation in July 1943. Ancestry shows three listings for him, one as part of the Marine Detachment, USS Bunker Hill in October 1943. USS Bunker Hill (CV-17) was an Essex Class Aircraft Carrier, commissioned in May 1943 and saw considerable service in the Pacific during WWII. On 11 May 1945, while supporting the fighting on Okinawa, she was hit by two Japanese Kamikaze aircraft; the resulting explosions causing over 600 casualties among her crew. She sailed for Bremerton Navy Yard, via Pearl Harbor, for repairs and was still in the yards when the war ended.
