Original era manufacture. Single sided Navy dog tag issued to Joseph Marvin Joyner 346-80-88 in December of 1941.Online records show him serving aboard AM-63,USS Skylark, an AUK class minesweeper from November 1942 (a plank owner, as the ship was commissioned that month)until her sinking off of the coast of Okinawain April 1945,during minesweeping operations.On June 16th 1943 while screening US ships off of Guadalcanal she was attacked by Japanese aircraft and was credited with the downing of four of her attackers. On June 23rd she rescued crewman from the USS Aludra, and USS Deimos when those transport ships weretorpedoed by a Japanese submarine. USS Skylark spent nearly 2 1/2 years in the Pacific theatermainly involved in escort duties, until her sinking off Okinawa.
