Original era manufacture. A local antique shop purchase, the vendor stating that an elderly man walked in with it stating that the helmet had sat in his garage long enough; that his uncle had brought it home from WWII.Standard German Army M1940 steel helmet, ET62, with an original decal as shown. Very dark surface patina finish, just what you would expect to see in a garage-kept helmet for 70 years or so. Two of the original rivets remain, with original liner band and a petrified liner and chinstrap. The unit history tells the story of the 230th Field Artillery Battalion during WWII, and its service attached to the 30th Infantry Division. The book was printed postwar in Germany, and written in the frontispiece is the following; "Got Book, Aug 1945 Hof Germany, Sgt Alfred Vigue (?), Co A 120 Inf APO 30, 30th Division".Written below is a statement about his being wounded just before the war was over and never getting the "points" for the incident. The book shows age and wear, lots of research potential
