Original era issue. A very nice quality medal, which by the manufacturing style appears to date in the WWI-WWII era, and awarded to senior military officers (including Smedley Butler), for "The Pennsylvania Distinguished Service Medal shall be awarded by the Governor to civilians, veterans and members of the Pennsylvania National Guard, Pennsylvania Guard or armed forces of the United States or their reserve components in recognition of meritorious service beyond the normal dictates of duty to this Commonwealth". Nicely toned enameled planchet with the initials JBE on the bottom edge. Original ribbon with a slot brooch suspension.
