Original era manufacture. A very ornate, and nicely executed trench art letter opener made from the copper driving band of an artillery shell.The leaf shaped blade is nicely inscribed with the design of a fish, and the words souvenir de Iser 1914, 15, 16. The reverse of the blade displays a central ridge with light floral decoration, and named Oostkerre, Le 1 Avril 1915.Highly decorative guard of driving band copper, set with a keystone shaped brass panel with floral decoration.The pommel is also set with a similar brass panel, again with floral decoration. The grip reveals details of the original ridges of the driving band.
